Live ready to move
In Exodus 12, the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, asking them to give the children of Israel very specific instructions about preparing a Passover Feast. They had to meet all of God’s requirements in order for God to be able to bring about their salvation and deliverance from Egypt. The children of Israel were to eat this meal, and be ready to move, to travel.
Jacob had moved his family to Egypt to escape the drought and start a new life. Things went well for a season; they were fruitful and increased abundantly. The children of Israel probably became complacent; they were prospering, they felt God was on their side, and they began to get a little too comfortable in a foreign land. However, Egyptian leadership had begun a process of change. The Egyptians made the children of Israel’s lives hard, then Pharaoh told the midwives to kill the male children born to them, but still they grew and multiplied; the prophesy over Abraham was a blessing for he and his descendants.
The Church today, like the people of Israel were, is under siege from an enemy that is becoming more overt. The Church has stood by and watched freedoms slowly erased. There are similarities between the battles being fought by our Church today and the battles fought by the children of Israel. The children of Israel faced terrible trials but still Abraham’s descendants were blessed, and in our Church today we face the challenges of a society that is becoming more permissive and paying less heed to the teachings of God. The people of Israel found that as the challenges came, so did the blessings. Exodus. 1:12 “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel.” As we face these challenges as the enemy arises against us, we should see the spirit of God’s favour and blessing in our lives. God is not a man that He should lie; what He has spoken, what He has promised, even over and above, will be released to us when we fear God and put Him first in the midst of whatever opposition comes against us. Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
The Children of Israel had to eat with their loins girded, ready to move because God wanted to move them to a new stage in their lives. We too need to be ready to move; to be ready to be available to God. Your battle may take several forms. People may need your prayers; a person grappling with suicidal thoughts, your pastors, a business deal to assist the kingdom of God. Offer yourself to the Lord: “Here I am Lord, I am ready, and whatever you command I will do.”
Live, Ready to Move.
