Undercover Boss is a television program about bosses who went undercover as new employees, to visit their managers. These managers had no idea who this recruit actually was!
That started me thinking: how many times God has turned up incognito, so to speak, and we haven’t realised? God is always with us, but sometimes we become so familiar with Him that we become unaware of his actual presence. Hebrews 13:1 Let love for your fellow believers continue and be a fixed practice with you [never let it fail]. 2 Do not forget or neglect or refuse to extend hospitality to strangers [in the brotherhood - being friendly, cordial and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously] for, through it, some have entertained angels without knowing it.
WOW! I wonder how many angels we’ve missed by not being friendly to strangers.
A concert violinist dressed up as a homeless person and busked in the subway tunnel. People passed him by, but that night paid hundreds of dollars to attend his concert. Jesus said in Matthew 25:35-46 that when we ignore the needs of others, we are ignoring Him; when we help others, we help Him. 40 “Truly I tell you. In so far as you did it for one of the least (in the estimation of men) of these my brethren, you did it for me.” Has your ultimate “Boss” been undercover in your life, and you haven’t known it because you didn’t recognise him? Perhaps He was the busker, the new office boy or the old man on the seat… It’s easy to be “spiritual” when we’re in the company of Christians, but who are we when we think no-one is watching us?
In Genesis 19, Lot received a visit from two angels. It was through them that Lot and his family were able to escape the destruction of Sodom. Lot had shown kindness to strangers, and he had been rewarded, with the lives of his family. An undercover boss would have been impressed. Live life as though your “Boss” is undercover, anywhere around you; even when you think no-one is watching!
Some of us have become “passion-less” about our Christian lives, and we are just going through the motions. We need to choose passion; to see each day as a gift and to serve Jesus to the full.
Matthew 25: 21 His master said to him, “Well done you upright, honourable, admirable and faithful servant! You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little. I will put you in charge of much. Enter into and share the joy, the delight, the blessedness which your master enjoys.
There are rewards for those who have given it all they’ve got; who have done everything as unto Jesus, no matter the applause of men or approval of people.
They have worked as if the Boss were watching and one day they will receive the “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Go forth as part of this group and live your life as if the Boss is watching, all the time!
