Wake up the mighty men

David’s gathered a motley crew about him! 1 Samuel 22:2 “And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented (bitter of soul) gathered to him.So he became captain over them, and there were about four hundred men with him.”

This bunch of no-hopers became David’s mighty men, and the Lord brought about significant victories through their feats!  Eleazar attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword; Shammah stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines;Abishai lifted his spear against three hundred men, killed them. These men changed from defeated no-hopers into a group of the fiercest fighters ever seen.  How? They aspired to be like David, who was their hero.

There is no condemnation

In John 8, when the scribes and Pharisees brought the women caught in adultery to Jesus, his response was not to stone her as Moses’ law dictated, but rather to tell the men there, 7“He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” Predictably the crowd melted away, leaving Jesus alone with the woman.  He then said to her, 11“Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Shut up and listen

That’s what mums sometimes want to say to their children. Happy mothers’ day to all mums.  Mums do an awesome job.

At the battle of Jericho, Joshua listened when God spoke His plan.  Then Joshua commanded the people, “You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout.”  The men walked, and the men shut up; the men won the victory.  Men, we would win more wars if we shut up and listened to the Lord and put His battle plans into operation.

Receipt for Blessing

When you make a purchase, you are usually given a receipt as proof of payment.  Blessing is the receipt of servanthood and generosity.  The Bible is filled with examples of the blessings for those who give:  Proverbs. 11:25 “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.”  Proverbs. 22:9 “He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.”  Isaiah. 32:8 “But a generous man devises generous things, and by generosity he shall stand.”  We make a living by what we get out of life, but we make a life by what we give.
